When it comes to gambling and casinos, there are certain cities and territories that instantly come to mind. Macau in China, Las Vegas and Atlantic City in the United States, and Monte Carlo and London in Europe are often the most popular gambling cities. The common perception is that Europe and the Americas are the thriving hubs for casino gaming, with Asia not far behind. Although these are the most popular among enthusiasts and operators, gambling and casinos also thrive in other parts of the world, Africa included. The casino industry in Africa brings in more than $2 billion in revenues,with the gambling action focused primarily in South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria. It is in South Africa that the bulk of the casino action happens, followed by Kenya and then Nigeria. The combined gambling revenues in Africa may pale in comparison compared to other regions, but it is expected to climb with the planned construction and operations of new offline casinos in Africa.

Macau Legend to Open $290 million Casino in Cape Verde

During the first quarter of 2016, the Macau-based Macau Legend Development Limited has approved the start of the construction of a new casino in Cape Verde. The ground-breaking ceremony was headed by Macau Legend CEO David Chow Kam Fai, and he was joined by the Prime Minister of Cape Verde, Jose Maria Neves. During the groundbreaking ceremony, Chow explained the importance of this new landmark casino project, saying that this new casino is part of the overall plan of the company to expand its international operations. He added that with this new casino development, the company can offset any losses that they may incur in their Macau casino operations.

Cape Verde’s Prime Minister called the project as another manifestation that the island country is on its way to development. He added that with a tourism boom and the operations of the casino, jobs will be created along the way.

Time Square by Sun International to Open in Menlyn Maine

Other casino developments are expected in Africa; this time the project is from Sun International. According to reports, the company will use its casino license to build Morula Sun, a new casino. This new casino will be named the Time Square and will house slots and table games. According to the early information shared with the media, the proposed new casino complex will include 2,000 slots machines and dozens of gaming tables. The proposed casino will also include 100 luxury rooms and hotel suites that will appeal to the premium customer. No other information and details were released about the proposed casino complex, but what’s clear today is that this new complex will serve as a gaming and hotel hub. The project will also include an area where concerts can be hosted, making this hotel and casino a one-stop hub for those looking for entertainment. Once completed, Time Square will become the second largest casino in the continent, and will likely create thousands of jobs that will spur the regional economy.
